Israel and the battle with Covid 19 – An in conversation with Professor Ran Balicer
Future Health, Founder and Programme Director Sloggett chaired an in conversation with Professor Ran Balicer, a leading public health figure in Israel’s fight against Covid 19 last week for the Anglo-Israeli Association. Professor Balicer discussed the country’s response to the pandemic to date and also highlighted a series of important points regarding Israel’s successful vaccine rollout:
- Geography – Israel has a condensed geography which helps support a faster rollout of the vaccine and has helped with the supply chain
- Digital health – Israel has a well established integrated digital health system that supports the effective booking and deployment of vaccinations
- Community health – The Israeli health system has a strong focus on community based healthcare and prevention which has provided a sound infrastructure for the vaccination programme
- Outreach – The Government and health system has undertaken a lot of dedicated outreach to more sceptical vaccine groups. It has helped build community champions who have helped push back against anti-vaxx sentiments
- Operational agility – The digital health system helps with operational agility in sending late afternoon alerts of vaccine availability to residents near vaccine centres with supply left over and in danger of wastage
