Levelling up health – a new vision for improving public health
Future Health is delighted today to support the launch of the All Party Parliamentary Group for Longevity report ‘Levelling Up Health’. The report includes ideas and proposals for improving the nation’s health. Specifically the report calls for:
- A new political consensus on the importance of improving public health and tackling health inequalities
- The creation of a ten year health improvement plan by the new Office of Health Promotion including action on smoking, obesity, clean air and in early years
- The funding of a health improvement fund alongside a protected public health grant to support areas of the country with poorer health and where the coronavirus pandemic has been particularly difficult.

The report was co-authored by Richard Sloggett, Founder and Programme Director of Future Health, alongside Damian Green MP, Lord Filkin and Tina Woods. Richard will moderate an event to discuss the report today, with the Health and Social Care Secretary, Matt Hancock and the Chief Medical Officer, Chris Whitty.

This work forms part of Future Health’s prevention workstream and follows the Government’s recent announcement of a new Office of Health Promotion (OHP) to replace Public Health England. The OHP blueprint for a new public health system strongly reflected the findings of work authored by those at Future Health last November. Richard delivered a keynote address at the Westminster Health Forum conference recently discussing this in more detail: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DMnNSKRLy3U
